The synergy of safety and sustainability in municipal and road Infrastructure

23.04.2026

This year's event focused on safety and sustainability in municipal and road infrastructure, as well as the synergy between these two key aspects.

The first part of the seminar addressed the technical, hydraulic, and structural aspects of efficient drainage of traffic areas, with particular emphasis on bridges and other demanding infrastructure structures. Proper road drainage is essential for ensuring traffic safety, extending pavement service life, and protecting bridge components from the effects of water, salts, and other aggressive substances. Special attention was given to modern bridge drainage solutions, designed to provide efficient collection and controlled discharge of stormwater from bridge structures.

The second part of the seminar focused on the technical and microbiological challenges associated with ensuring safe drinking water in both internal plumbing installations and public water distribution systems. Particular attention was devoted to the issue of biofilm formation, other risk factors, and opportunistic pathogens such as Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which are among the most common causes of microbiological instability in internal water systems.

An advanced solution – the Sanikill technology – was also presented. As a new technology on the Slovenian market, it enables long-term microbiological stabilisation of water systems by establishing a residual disinfection effect in both internal and public water supply networks.
